How does the hosepipe ban affect your hot tub?
Recent press releases on behalf of the water companies has been incorrect regarding the hosepipe ban due to start on the 5th April 2012. DEFRA is responsible for any water polices in the UK and not the water companies themselves.
How are Hot Tubs affected?
The upcoming hosepipe ban does not affect hot tubs. DEFRA and BISHTA (British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association) have agreed that hot tubs are excluded from the ban as they are not mentioned in the current legislation.
It has been acknowledged that hot tubs are not a cause of significant water usage as they only require re-filling 3 – 4 times a year and none of the water goes to waste and can be completely recycled.
If the drought gets worse?
If the drought gets worse then DEFRA would introduce a ‘drought order’ basically prevent the use of any hosepipe. But this would be an extremely rare situation. However it is still OK to fill or top-up your hot tub with a handheld vessel like a bucket or watering can
